Red Lake Schools Safety Page

Working towards safety in our schools and communities.
Together, we got this!

Hello! As the superintendent of Red Lake School District my passion is school safety for everyone. Safety comes in many forms. Physical safety from threats is one form. In order to keep all staff and students physically safe, ISD #38 uses the Standard Response Protocol in order to inform our drills and our responses in crisis situations.

Another form of safety is social-emotional safety where everyone feels welcome, connected, and respected. ALL students should know that they are welcome and loved. This means we do not accept bullying of any kind in our schools. We work hard to teach everyone how to treat each other with respect. Please check out our "anti-bully" videos on this page.

Any single tool, such as a metal detector or security camera, can be disabled. So, there is no single best tool to prevent crisis situations. Safety planning is a layered approach. These layers include good communication, safety planning, community partnerships, and more. Click Layers of Safety to learn about our many ways to ensure we have a safe school district.

Crisis isn't a choice. Response is.

Red Lake Schools utilizes a safety response protocol called The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) created by the "i love u guys" foundation. The SRP provides the standard terminology that is needed in any crisis situation. The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s programs for crisis response and post-crisis reunification are used in more than 50,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations and communities around the world. They are created through the research-based best practices of school administrators, psychologists, public space safety experts, families, and first responders.
